Ending

After Iron Town is evacuated, Ashitaka and San pursue Jigo and retrieve the head, returning it to the Forest Spirit. The Spirit dies but its form washes over the land, healing it and lifting Ashitaka's curse. San believes that the mountain beast god still exists although it has not been resurrected, while Ashitaka believes that the Forest Spirit is still with them and controls the power of life and death.

San thanks Ashitaka for his help and although she can not forgive human beings, she is grateful. Ashitaka respect San's choice. He stays to help rebuild Iron Town and promises that he'll regularly visit her with Yakul. The two smile and saiy goodbye. Eboshi vows to build a better town and the forest begins to regrow.

Finally, the scene switches to a tree with buds growing on the fallen tree. An elf appears, shaking his head and making a clicking sound, ending the whole story.
