Pandora (Jewelry)
[edit]History section after they talk about their mined diamonds
- Lab grown diamonds are essential identical to mined diamonds. During the process there is less environmental damage and not as dangerous for the worker. Alexander Lacik Pandora's chief executive purpose was for their diamonds to be affordable and sustainable as well. [1]
In 2020 Pandora had announced that all Pandora jewelry would be made from recycled silver and gold due to many reasons such as substantially reduce its greenhouse gas emission. With this change comes conflicts among the consumers of what is "recycled"? This word can mean has a different definition among individuals. Which is the reason many organization have asked the Federal Trade Commission to not use the word recycle to describe jewelry products sold in the United states. This still is in process hoping for a response this year. With this change to the company Pandora has to be willing to pay is $10 million more annually for recycled metal compared to newly mined metal.
Corporate sustainability efforts
[edit]The CEO of Pandora jewelry had announced they would no longer use mined diamonds for any of there new design and would phase into lab grown diamonds. Pandora's first released collection of synthetic stones was in would be in Britain in the year 2021 to later on was used in other markets by 2022. [2]
The whole point of lab grown diamonds is to provider their consumers with affordable and sustainable diamonds. This all leads us to the result of the process being less environmental damage and not as dangerous for the workers. In comparison of mined diamonds and lab-grown diamonds are essentially identical to one another. [3]
By the beginnings of 2025 Pandora plans to have shift to using recycled gold and silver. In order to reduce CO2 and better the environment.[4]
In 2020, Pandora had announced they will be sourcing to only 100% recycled silver and gold for its collections. When working with metal that have been mined, leads us to not digging deeper in search of new material allowing the company to substantially reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. Since mining requires more energy and resources than recycling and is leading source of mercury pollution. [5]
When introducing this idea we run into the conflicts with the word "recycled", how? Well many individuals can interpret this word differently, which can create conflicts and concerns on where they metal is coming from. Which is the reason many organizations have asked the Federal Trade Commission to not use the word recycle to describe jewelry products sold in the United states. This still is in process hoping for a response this year. With this change to the company Pandora has to be willing to pay is $10 million more annually for recycled metal compared to newly mined metal. They currently have the same team of 100 employees who were involved when switching from mined to lab-grown diamonds, now being involved in the switch to recycled metals.[5]
