Adipati (Sanskrit: अधिपति, romanizedadhipati) is a Javanese nobility title for a ruler or regional administrator equivalent to the Latin word of dux or English word of duke, and a territory governed by an Adipati is called Kadipaten (a confix of Ke-Adipati-an). The title Adipati was used in pre-colonial kingdoms and continued to be used during and post-colonial Indonesia, notably in the region of Vorstenlanden in Java, although originated from the Javanese language, the title was also used in several Bornean kingdoms, including Brunei Darussalam.
