The conquest of Sunda Kelapa was an invasion launched by Demak Sultanate and its allies against the Sunda Kingdom in the port of Sunda Kelapa as part of their effort to counter the growing influence of the Portuguese Empire who planned to make a settlement in the area. The attack took place from 1526 to June 1527, and after a few months of fighting, Demak had successfully captured the port, transforming it a port-city and renamed it to Jayakarta. The foundation of Jayakarta is commonly attributed to the 16th-century Demak military commander named Fatahillah.
