ABOUT THE TEAM[edit]

The Miami Heat Wheels is a competitive wheelchair basketball team based in Miami, Florida, United States. The team is a member of the Florida Wheelchair Basketball Conference in the in the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA). Competing at the Division III level in the NWBA, the adult wheelchair basketball team competes in local and regional competitions associated with the the league. Season typically runs from September through March, with the NWBA National Championships in April. Practices take place generally 1-2 times per week.

This program is sponsored by the Leisure Access Foundation, Miami-Dade Parks, and the Miami Heat.

Team History[edit]

The Miami Heat Wheels wheelchair basketball team is in their 15th year of existence. Since 1998, Miami-Dade County Parks Disability Services and the Leisure Access Foundation have provided a way for these athletes to achieve their highest potential.

Mission[edit]

To provide opportunities to participate, learn, and develop the skills to play wheelchair basketball to persons with physical disabilities of the lower extremities.

Vision[edit]

Enrich the lives of the participants and the community through the participation and growth of wheelchair basketball throughout Miami-Dade County, the State of Florida, and the United States. Future plans include building additional wheelchair basketball programs in South Florida for the Junior, Collegiate, Women’s and Championship levels.
