Proposed Changes/Article Reflection
[edit]I think this is a really good article. All of the content is relevant. I would say they maybe could add more info into the section titled "Online Cheating." However, overall it is written neutrally with reliable citations.
Online Cheating
[edit]Online cheating (in gaming) usually refers to modifying the game experience to give one player an advantage over others, such as using an "aimbot" – a program which automatically locks the player's crosshairs onto a target – in shooting games.[14][15][16] This is also known as "hacking" or "glitching" ("glitching" refers to using a glitch, or a mistake in the code of a game, whereas "hacking" is manipulating the code of a game) the main component of which is the utilization of a third party source used to manipulate the game and perform inhuman actions.. Cheating in video games is often done via a third-party program that modifies the game's code at runtime to give one or more players an advantage. In other situations, it is often achieved by changing the game's files to change the game's mechanics.[17] The result is the "Cheater" or "Hacker" is rewarded with an advantage over their opponents. Hacking is very frowned upon in competitive play and is a huge problem[1]. Cheating can also occur by using a manipulated keyboard or controller that allows for abnormal or inhuman inputs.

New Sections:
[edit]Online Gaming Tournaments
[edit]Since the inception of gaming, competition has been a prevalent component.[1] From arcade scoreboards to two-player games, and now professional game tournaments. From humble LAN tournament beginnings, there are now gaming tournaments that sell out arenas. Popular games like counterstrike gather massive crowds to watch multiplayer gaming tournaments. Newer games like Fortnite have hosted Gaming Competitions will 1 million dollar prizes.[2]
Online Multiplayer Landmarks
[edit]With the introduction of online multiplayer games, it revolutionized multiplayer video gaming. No longer would everyone have to share a network and play over a LAN party. Now, people can play with each other from across the country and even the world. Expansions of servers both owned by the game studio, or privately owned by the users allow hundreds of thousands to millions of players to play a game at the same time. Games like Counterstrike, Fortnite, Minecraft, and Roblox, each garner massive amounts of players every day. In November, 2023 when Fortnite launched its "OG Update", it peaked at over 44 million players[3], breaking ever record it has set from its launch over 10 years ago.
