About Me

My name Mary Catherine (Katie) Clements and I am currently a second-semester sophomore at the University of Southern Indiana. I am majoring in Elementary Education with a minor in Language Arts. Since I was born and raised in Evansville, Indiana, it was only natural that I attended USI. I am a commuter student (yes, I live at home, but I get free food and free laundry!) Since I currently work at an after-school daycare at a parochial school in Evansville, I cannot afford to live on my own, especially when I am a full time student. A few things I enjoy are running, biking, traveling, watching football, and taking care of my pets. I have three dogs named Alice, Oreo, and Lucy, and a cat named Pibbers. I graduated from Mater Dei High School in 2012, where I was on the dance team and involved in several clubs. My favorite television show is The Big Bang Theory (other than that I don't watch TV much). I am a Pinterest addict.

Other Hobbies

When I am not at work or school, I am constantly scouring Pinterest on my phone for craft ideas and recipes. I enjoy making desserts and doing crafts that I think seem interesting. I have made a few mosiac pieces that I would love to sell, but haven't found the time to complete more projects.

Why I Want to Become a Teacher

As mentioned in my "About Me" section, I am currently an Elementary Education major with a Language Arts minor. Why would I choose such a challenging and unrewarding career that has little pay (yes, someone actually asked me that)? Teaching is far from unrewarding. It is up to the teacher to help "shape little minds" and to enjoy the littlest moments of accomplishments from their students. Knowing that a child is understanding and learning a new concept by the way you're teaching it to him or her is definitely rewarding. Seeing their faces light up when the light bulb goes off in their mind is the best part of teaching. How do I know this when I am not even a teacher yet myself? As mentioned before, I work at an after-school daycare and in the summer, I work full time at an all-day daycare at the school. Being a daycare leader/provider is definitely not as easy as it seems. Keeping the children interested and having fun while also teaching them life lessons is definitely a tough job (not to mention the "potty" accidents and various messes). But those little moments of realization and happiness emanating from the child's face is beyond rewarding.
