COI Statement
[edit]My intention is to contribute to those of the articles about computer networking which are within my area of expertise. Lately (March 2014) there is a lot of debate regarding conflicts of interest, so I feel the need to make clear what my affiliations are.
Though I current work for HP, supporting their portfolio of enterprise networking equipment since 2009, HP is not paying me to contribute to Wikipedia, or any other online resource not owned by HP for that matter. My reasons for contributing to this site is purely a representation of my personal interests in the topics to which I contribute. In particular, I do not contribute to Wikipedia during my working hours, and I do not receive compensation, monetary or otherwise, for the contributions I make. My interests in the topics I do contribute to is purely academic, I simply love the technologies and enjoy sharing the insights I have gained over the last 30 years.
About Me
[edit]It is worthwhile noting that I am largely autodidact. Should anyone dispute the technical correctness of what I contribute, I am very open to the possibility of being incorrect, and thus gladly stand corrected. I do have 30 years of practical experience with computer and network related technology, but the fact remains that technical standards have the last say in any matter.
Should you have reason to believe that I am misrepresenting the way a technology works, either by leaving out details which you believe are essential, or by plainly making incorrect statements (due to misunderstanding or not remembering correctly for example), I would appreciate it if you take action. You may revert my edits at any time, but it would be great if you would clarify why on the Talk page. We can then enter into a dialogue to either correctly describe what I wanted to add, or arrive at a consensus that the material added may not belong on the page in question, or some other conclusion entirely.
Computer Networking is a large and complex topic with many open and proprietary features and protocols interacting in complex ways. There are bound to be areas of dispute. My hope is that I may contribute constructively rather than cause conflict and alienation. While I am new to this, I am hoping to receive guidance rather than scorn from those with more Wikipedia experience than I currently have.
