Republic of Mountland[edit]

Mountland is an unrecognized micronation located in the mountains of southwest Virginia. Founded in 2005 by local residents and close friends, Mountland was created as an off-grid area for friends and locals to enjoy. The area encompasses 25 square miles of the Little Creek area of Pulaski County, Virginia. The Little Walker Creek flows through the middle Mountland, and brings many natural resources to the micronation including raw copper and very small amounts of gold.

History of Mountland[edit]

Mountland was founded October 12th, 2005 by a group of friends and local residents who wanted a place to enjoy and be free from modern distractions. The area is located between Cloyds Mountain and Little Walker Mountain. The American Civil War Battle of Cloyd's Farm took place less than a mile south of the area.

The Flag of Mountland[edit]

Designed by Chris Hetherington in 2018, the flag of Mountland is a navy blue, gold, and white flag containing eight 6-point stars representing the founders and natural resources. A gold cross symbolizes the Christian faith strongly followed by the residents. The identical blue triangles represent the two major mountains in the area, and the white triangles represent the past and future of the area.
