The industry of energy is being shifted as the government’s regulations on companies like Eversource have increased. Eversource was recently involved in a lawsuit regarding violating marking techniques and the Global Warming Solutions Act. The company agreed to pay 1.8 million dollars in a civil penalty[1]. Eversource was found misleading customers through marketing to have them sign up for natural gas to have power for the following years [2]. In doing so, Eversource was increasing the number of homes operating on natural gas, causing an increase in Carbon emissions [3].[edit]

The increased pressure for companies to switch to more sustainable methods have impacted Eversource energy as they create a long-term plan to reduce their Carbon Emissions [4]. Eversource has made efforts to reduce emissions of Carbon in order to create a more sustainable company. Eversource has outlined its efforts till 2030 to create a more sustainable company[5]. Their plan to reduce Carbon emissions entails increasing solar energy and improving energy storage systems for offshore wind turbines.[edit]

Eversource also is the first publicly traded company to invest in Green Molecules. Green Molecules is a phrase used by the company Enterprise Venture Corporation to describe the decarbonization and digitization of natural gas[6]. The phrase "Green Molecules" is used to describe technology that reduces the output of Carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. These include solar panels, wind turbines, and Biogas. These methods of energy production reduce the amount of Carbon in the atmosphere, which in turn makes for a more sustainable environment. Eversource collaboration with ECV is also joined by Avista Corp., Black Hills Energy, NiSource, Southwest Gas Holdings, and Spire.[7][edit]
