Dr Morgan Beeby is an academic at Imperial College London. He is interested in how the molecular machinery of the cell assembles, functions, and evolves. To tackle this problem he uses electron cryo-tomography, a technique that enables visualizing this machinery inside living cells -- to resolutions capable of discerning individual proteins.

Dr Beeby undertook postdoctoral training with Professor Grant J. Jensen at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) from 2008 to 2012. Prior to that, he studied for his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of California, Los Angeles under the supervision of Professor Todd O. Yeates in 2007. His dissertation, titled Comparative genomics and application to specific biological systems: hyperthermophily and shell-forming proteins, used comparative genomics as the basis for contextualizing specific biological systems using the wealth of recent genomic data.
