Shozen-ji is an ancient temple of the Rinzai sect, located at Minami-ku, Okayama city.[1]

Buildings

[edit]

Shozen-ji Hondo

The main hall is a square length style with a flat floor plan. The room in the back of the center is a Buddhist room and a Buddhist altar is made. It is considered to be the construction of the 4th year (1691) from the inscription written on the ogre, and although it is simple, it is important as one of the leading constructions in the city that dates back to the late 17th century.[3][4]

掌善寺・観音堂

Shozen-ji Kannon-do

It is said to be a reconstruction of a mauseland built by Takanori Kojima for his son, and it is a Zen sect-like Buddha hall with three rooms and a square Irimoya style. The principal image is the Eleven-faced Kannon, which is Nenjibutsu of Kotoku. The inside of the hall is a plastered dirt floor, and a "Suha school" is made in the back, and a miniature shrine with an Irimoya-zukuri table is placed.

It seems to have been built in the first year of the Genbun era (1736) from the ridges. It is one of the few Zen sect-like buildings in the city, and it is valuable with excellent structural technology and design.[5][6]
