From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Misha Collins joined Twitter (@mishacollins) on May 12, 2009. - The legitimacy of his account being confirmed by Misha himself at Asylum3 a convention held in Birmingham, England for the fans of Supernatural in the same month. He also posted pictures of himself. The legitimacy of the account was also confirmed by the CW.

Supernatural is CW’s hit TV show now in its 5th Season. Misha plays the recurring character of Castiel, an angel on the show. He soon had a large following which to date is over 21,000. In one of his early twits (his term for tweeting) he referred to his followers as Minions. On weekends, minions are referred to as flunkies. They in turn happily adopted this term and so Misha’s Minions came to be.

...Anyway, i'll think of you as friends not followers. But then again, maybe minions is a better term... I'll percolate...[1]

...GLOSSARY (for those who haven't been paying attention) Minion: shorthand for "follower of @mishacollins." Flunky : A Minion on the weekend...[2]

The War Effort[edit]

On Misha’s visit to the U.K and subsequent capture by HRH the Queen one minion created the British Minion Resistance and started tweeting Intelligence reports on efforts to try and rescue Misha and was soon joined by other minions from several countries.

An official BMR twitter @BMROPSHQ[4] was later created to make announcements. BMR decided they wanted to start a hashtag and attempt to make it a trending topic to show support for Misha. #mishasminions was suggested and adopted.

On June 19th an attempt to make it a trending topic was made.[5] Due to the difficulty communicating this information to other minions the attempt was unsuccessful.

From June 26th to July 8th, 47 #mishasminions bumperstickers were tweeted from @BMROPSHQ.[6],[7]

On July 10th Misha tweeted a request for minions to create a map on which to stake land claims[8] and to organise a flag competition.[9]

Minions Website[edit]

A BMR member created a website on July 11th http://www.mishasminions.webs.com to which the map and flag competition were added. Misha subsequently tweeted the website address designating it Central Intelligence [10]

The website gave minions a place to meet and exchange ideas. As a result some decided to form their own national resistance/army groups and became allies of BMR. There are currently more than 800 members from 58 countries. One of the groups formed was MAD Misha’s American Defence who subsequently created their own minion website on August 7th http://www.mishasminions.com

On August 20th, in honour of Misha Collins’s birthday, his minions got together to spam twitter to get #mishasminions number 4 on the trending topics list.
