Within Calgary there are approximately 8,000 hectares of parkland available for public usage and recreation.[1] These parks include Fish Creek Provincial Park, Inglewood Bird Sanctuary, Bowness Park, Edworthy Park, Confederation Park, Prince’s Island Park, Nose Hill Park, and Central Memorial Park. Nose Hill Park is one of the largest municipal parks in Canada with 1129 hectares. The park has been undergoing a rehabilitation of it's trails which was proposed as parts of a plan to revitalize the park beginning in 2006.[2][3] The oldest park in Calgary, Central Memorial Park, dates back to 1911. Similar to Nose Hill Park, revitalization also took place in Central Memorial Parkin 2008-2009 and reopened to the public in 2010 while still maintaining its Victorian style.[4] Connecting these parks and the various neighborhoods is an extensive path way system with over 800 kilometers of pathways. These pathways are open for all citizens and visitors to enjoy the sights and locations in the city.[1]
