Fada Vex, Fada Vex, also known as Bourbia Malik or Cheikh Malik[1],[2], is an Algerian rapper who was born in Moscow on March 23, 1976[3], but raised in Es Senia, Oran, Algeria. He was a founding member of T.O.X, one of the first Algerian rap groups.[4],[5],[6].

Biography[edit]

In the beginning.

Fada Vex, real name Bourbia Malik, was born on March 23, 1976, and began rapping in 1992.[7]. He was a member of several bands, including LOGz and Too Nice Clique, before forming T.O.X. at the end of 1996[8], Oran was already home to bands such as Ods, Mclb, Talisman, Tox, and Perfect G's in later 1999[9].

Fada means "father" in English because he was the group's oldest member, and Vex refers to the vexatious nature of his lyrics.

Fada Vex was born to an Algerian father and a Russian mother in Moscow, Russia. His family relocated to Oran, Algeria, when he was two years old.

He was interested in music from a young age and joined an Andalusian music troupe at the Maoued Ahmed youth centre in Oran to learn guitar and singing, but after a year and a half, he became bored with the theory and quit.

Fada Vex youth.

As a teenager, he began rapping in high school during English classes, where he performed songs he had memorised while watching the M6 show RapLine, hosted by Olivier Cachin, and rap songs that played late at night on Los 40 radio. In his bedroom, he began scribbling lyrics in French and English, influenced by rappers of the 1990s such as : Mc Solaar, Naughty by Nature, Heavy D, Kool G rap, Mc Hammer, Dr Dre[10].

Career[edit]

Following that, he co-founded the group TNC (Too Nice Clique) with Jiggy-G and Machine Gun (his brother, who later became Banis).TNC later merged with Madman and Lil-G of another Oranese rap group.

Finally, at the end of 1996, Mic Maestro from Vixit joined the group, giving birth to the definitive T.O.X.  (Theory of Xsitence)."Meshi Besah" was released in 1998, followed by "Ghir Hak" in 2000.

Over time, the band's career was carried on by just three members: Fada Vex, Banis, and DJ Redha J (who joined in 1999 as a DJ).[12].

Fada Vex released his first independent solo album in 2004.[13], intitulé El Facteur. titled El Facteur. Alongside his work with the group T.O.X, he is also involved in solo projects. He runs rap writing workshops in Algeria and France.[14],[15] while working as a journalist for La Voix de l'Oranie. He conducts several interviews with rap groups and publishes articles on Algerian rap[16],[17].

In collaboration with Banis, he hosted the Algerian rap podcast Wech Ya! between 2020 and 2021.
