Lawrence Preston was born Lawrence Preston Williams Jr.on December 10, 1964. Lawrence was introduced to music through his parents gospel group, " The Sensational Travelers". Lawrence's father and mother formed a gospel group comprised of Lawrence and his three male cousins, called "The Fantastic Four". Lawrence's father, Lawrence Sr. began to teach all of the boys lead and bass guitar. Lawrence Preston Jr. although he learned lead guitar his passion became the bass. With the popularity of funk bands being dominated on the radio in the 70's it heightened Lawrence's interest in the bass.

After being noticed by Freddie Stone, at the age of 19, he started playing bass for Dorothy Morrison and her gospel band, famous for "Oh Happy Day". He played with Dorothy for several years perfecting his bass solos. It was then that he moved onto stage performance, studying under Ed Hooks, acting coach. Lawrence wrote his first song, "Driving Me Away", in the early 90's. This was later released along with "A Little Vanity". His first full length album, "And Now Lawrence Preston" was released in 1997 under his own record label, Gemstone Records, established in 1995.

Over the past 20 years, Lawrence has developed his own unique blend of Soul, Funk, Jazz, and Gospel, which he calls eclectic soul. <ref>"In 2012, Lawrence released his most impressive work to date; a full length album blending Jazz, Soul, R&B and Funk into a masterpiece of music accomplishment. "Something For You" proved to be the biggest hit of his career, peaking at number four on the New Music Weekly Adult Contemporary Chart and reaching number twelve on the top forty. Lawrence’s current single is a reworking of his first song “Driving Me Away”; the song has became another huge success, spending four weeks at number 19 on the Adult Contemporary chart. Most recently, in October of 2015, Lawrence's single, "Something For You", debuted at #4 on Billboard Magazine's Hot Single Sales Chart, giving him industry recognition as a Billboard charting artist.  Lawrence Preston is an extremely charismatic and talented musician, with a rare honesty that is much needed in the music industry." Lawrence also has a love of educating young people, teaching in the San Francisco area for over 17 years. He has taught music lessons to people of all ages. His future goals include sharing his passion for music with inner city youth. He has a desire to touch lives through his music.
