My name is Nahiida and I am a PhD candidate at SOAS. I am part of the PhD Placement programme at the British Library, until end of March 2023. I will be working with the Endangered Archives Programme team to make digitised West African manuscripts from Mali, Nigeria and Senegal more accessible for people. The EAP website boasts an extensive collection of digitised manuscripts, numbering in the hundreds of thousands. The purpose of this exercise is to provide an overview of selected manuscripts, which are listed below.

Endangered Archives Programme[edit]

As I began my journey of reviewing manuscripts, I was captivated by the abundance of knowledge waiting to be uncovered. Through these texts, I gained a unique insight into the lives of West African people from centuries ago. One of the challenges I faced was deciphering various handwriting styles, but this only added to the richness of the experience. Above all, what stood out was the universal respect and devotion to Allah and the Prophet that permeated throughout the manuscripts.
