Education[edit]

In order to become a Nurse Practitioner, need to become a register nurse also know as R.N. "All Nurse Practitioners must complete master's or doctoral degree program". Nurse Practitioners also require advanced clinical training. It is also a state requirement for Nurse Practitioners to have their stat license. Once Nurse Practitioners pass their national NP Board certificate exam they will receive their state license for nursing.

Background[edit]

Nurse Practitioner are required to "perform a full range of primary and specialty in the health care field". Their duties include ongoing I formation from patients, such as health history, laboratory test, and physical examination. Nurse Practitioners are just as qualified as R.N they prescribe medication, diagnose and assess patients. Nurse Practitioner tend to educate their patients to make better health decisions in life. Being a Nurse Practitioner can be stressful but long as you have a schedule and you mange your time you should be fine. Time management is most important because "patients and workload demands continue to increase daily". Always work with your colleges then can help you with work if you fall behind.

Nurse Practitioners Character Traits[edit]

Nurse practitioner are also known as primary care workers. When caring for patients Nurse Practitioners need to be critical thinkers. “Because they need to be able to use important information and data to make independently decisions on what’s best for the patient”. Nurse Practitioner always need to know the what, when, how, and why to give patently the proper care they need. Nurse practitioner have many skills but communication is most important. Nurse practitioner communicate with patients about their health history, and other important information they need to know. Nurse practitioner give and explains instructions very clearly to patients and colleges to build trusting relationships. They also communicate with colleagues about patients scheduling, etc. nurse practitioner are also considering great listeners this helps with sympathizing with sick patients and also family of the patients. Another important trait that N.P have is confidence. They need to be able to talk with confidence because if a patient feels like you are unsure what you are explaining they are goin g to start to worry and this needs to be avoided. The priority is to always steel clients in the right directions that will help them in the long run. Empathy is an important traits to have this is one of they most important one. Although empathy is similar to compassion but it is not the same. Having empathy 'allows you to put yourself in your patients shoes and understand their feelings in different situations". Empathy is a hard trait to learn but you can learn by just asking your patient how they feel and then picture yourself in the same situation to comfort them. Patience's is key. Nurse Practitioners have a lot of patience they have to care their patient feel comfortable at all times' even if that means holding their hand talking to them about fun things in life. Without patience they cannot provide the level of care needed. Last but not least Leadership. Beings a leader sets the tone of a hard worker, Nurse Practitioners are expected to always be ready to support their team. Being a leader is most of Nurse Practitioners characteristics combined together such as great communication skills, confidence, and integrity.

Primary Care Shortage[edit]

The Impact of COVID-19 meant a loss of many healthcare workers for different reasons. Nurse practitioners stepped in to help fill the void of short staff in health care facilities. Nurse practitioners helped with primary care shortage. Nurse practitioner provide similar care and health guidance like R.N. Nurse practitioner started building bonds with patients to gain theirs trust. Nurse practitioner "brought in a comprehensive perspective and personal touch". Nurse practitioners provided a huge impact to primary care "the AANP has pointed out that more than 870 million visits are made to Nurse Practitioners each year. Patients reported high satisfaction every time they received a check up from a Nurse Practitioner.

Sub-Specialty[edit]

Nurse practitioners have many sub-specialties. Pediatric Nurse practitioners also know as (pnp) “specializes in working with children. Family Nurse Practitioners (FNP)specialize in family focus care. A little inside to Family care Nurse Practitioners "deals with a diverse population, they specialize in patients of all ages". In addition to doing daily checkups for patients they also are responsible for diagnoses and treatments. Another job that Nurse Practitioners specialize in is Neonatal. Neonatal NP works with infants "who suffer from problems such as prematurity, birth defects, infections, surgical problems, etc. Most of these problems that occur for infants the first month of being burn. Neonatal nurses usually treat infants all way up to 2 years just to safe. Neonatal NP mostly work in hospital settings but they can also work in a home care facility.
