Article Evaluation
[edit]Notes and observations about my learning throughout the semester.
Article 1: HeForShe
[edit]- Is everything in the article relevant to the article topic? Is there anything that distracted you? Everything in the article is relevant to the article topic, but I would have liked to see more in-depth information regarding the content of this movement, as well as opposing viewpoints/similar campaigns that are held to get a more general overview of the campaign.
- Is the article neutral? Are there any claims, or frames, that appear heavily biased toward a particular position? The article is neutral. There are no specific claims or frames that appear heavily biased towards a particular position.
- Are there viewpoints that are overrepresented, or underrepresented? They do have a criticism portion within the page, which I thought was extremely helpful in understanding the overall context of the movement in 2005. However, I would like to know more about updated opposing viewpoints, now that it is 2020 and the conversation can be taken a step further.
- Check a few citations. Do the links work? Does the source support the claims in the article? The link works for the citations, but most links take you to the same website (HeForShe website). The source does support the claims in the article, but includes links to the campaign website blog posts, in which case makes me question whether it is non-biased or not.
- Is each fact referenced with an appropriate, reliable reference? Where does the information come from? Are these neutral sources? If biased, is that bias noted? Each fact is referenced with a reliable reference, most coming directly from a reliable news article source.
- Is any information out of date? Is anything missing that could be added? Most information is fairly outdated, coming from sources and articles published in 2014-2015. More updates could be added on the progress of the movement or its impact today.
- Check out the Talk page of the article. What kinds of conversations, if any, are going on behind the scenes about how to represent this topic? The talk page is VERY critical. It talks about the superficial nature of the article (should be expanded more), and that it doesn't talk about the impact in which this movement brought about. This talk page made me realize a lot of points that I haven't considered thus far.
- How is the article rated? Is it a part of any WikiProjects? The article is not part of a project, but it is a social movement campaign that I have personally looked into during the first assignment for the Twitter/Hashtag assignment.
- How does the way Wikipedia discusses this topic differ from the way we've talked about it in class? We've never discussed this in class, but I feel as though it could be a more well-rounded article page in terms of perspectives.
