RF CHECK
RF CHECK Incorporated is a wireless technology company that provides a specialized online database system designed to provide safety and health information related to wireless transmission sites.
History
RF CHECK was formed in 2003 [1] to respond to demand for site specific RF safety and health information at FCC licensed wireless antenna sites.
RF CHECK was formed to address a need based on the following points:
- RF emissions are regulated due to their potential for harm to humans and other organisms [2],
- wireless sites are pervasive,
- humans, such as workers (roofers and other contractors, maintenance personnel) may come into contact with wireless transmissions sites,
- the FCC recognizes RF as a hazard and has set exposure limits [3] based on the IEEE/ANSI standard [4],
- OSHA guidelines [5] dictate that workers must be provided a workplace free from recognized hazards.
The wireless industry is nearly free from major health litigation [6] However in 2007, the Alaska Supreme Court affirmed 100% disability to a worker overexposed to RF slightly above FCC mandated acceptable levels [7].
The National Association of Counties also recognized the risk municipalities hold as FCC licensees [6]
Support
RF CHECK has garnered support from major unions and national organizations including:
- Communications Workers of America [6]
- International Association of Fire Fighters [6]
- International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers [6]
- AFL-CIO Building and Construction Trades Union [6]
- National Association of Counties [8]
