I am going to focus on adding to/editing the information under the "Views of Pro-life, Pro-Choice, and Exceptions." There is little information about each side when it comes to abortion. People usually think you have to be either pro-life or pro-choice or they end up somewhere in between. I think having more facts about each stance will help when trying to align your own personal views and morals with one of them. All stances are based on when you consider a fetus to be human- some think its at conception, some think only when it can be viable outside of the mother's womb.
Pro-Choice
This stance is not arguing whether abortion is wrong but whether society should make a woman's decision for her. The pro-choice movement supports and works towards preventing unwanted pregnancies, reducing abortion, promoting contraception, educating women and youth, and ensuring families have the necessary resources to raise healthy, happy children. [1] Being pro-choice does not mean pro-abortion, it means that woman's rights should be protected. They should have the choice to have or not have a baby that is inside their bodies. If a mother performs an abortion to save her own life, she is not committing murder. The mother is choosing to save herself. Both the mother and the fetus have a right to life, but it should ultimately be up to the mother whether she wants to fight for her own life or if she wants to risk dying. [2]
Pro-Life
The pro-life movement is an anti-abortion movement. This movement wants to abolish abortion and make it illegal due to an underlying principle that makes it morally wrong and it is breaking a universal moral not to kill. The moral permissibility of abortion stands or falls on the moral status of the fetus. Since the fetus possesses a property, the possession of which in adult human beings is sufficient to make killing an adult human being wrong, abortion is wrong. [3] Abortion does not follow the principle that all humans have a right to life because it is eliminating that choice for the fetus. The only time in which abortion is considered is when the life of the mother is at stake. (This is not true for the pro-life movement and should be removed from the pro-life section. This falls under the exceptions section.) The pro-life movement advocates that an abortion is not necessary to save a pregnant woman's life.The prohibition of abortion does not affect, in any way, the availability of optimal care to pregnant women.
