Naŋar is Sumerian for "carpenter". It was written 𒉄 in Sumerian and is usually transcribed naĝar or nagar. The letter ĝ in the transcription represents a nasal g-ish sound in the Sumerian language that had no exact equivalent in Akkadian or other languages spoken in the region. It was probably pronounced like the English ng sound in words like "song" and "singer", IPA [ŋ].

I live in Virginia in the US and joined Wikipedia in 2011. I mostly do random copy editing. It turns out there's a lot of that that needs to be done when you start looking. I'm interested in the history of agriculture and hope to do more work on that in the future.
