Aya Takano

Born in Saitama – 1976. is a Japanese Superflat, Manga artist-woman and Science Fiction-essayist. Her childhood is associated with reading science and science fiction books in her father's library. Thus, amazed by the unusual forms of nature and animal life, she gets the desire to present such forms in her art. These are exotic animals and landforms combined with the urban city in a juxtaposition of the future and fantasy. Osamu Tezuka's science fiction and Joan Vartanian's book ``Drop Dead Cute'' have a special influence on her perception of the dream world. She studied at Tama Art University - Tokyo, where she received her master's degree and soon became an assistant to the leading Japanese contemporary artist Takashi Murakami - the founder of the Superflat art movement (which emphasizes two-dimensionality of figures based on Japanese manga and anime, presenting double fetishes of Japanese consumerism from basic ideas of Kaikai Kiki in a group of 5 to 7 female members). In the 80's the appearance of pre-pubescent girls becomes the target of consumer culture in Japanese society. And this infantilization and objectification of the feminine is seen most severely in Japanese Otaku culture. Takano re-examines otaku culture from a female perspective and is particularly interested in how the future will affect the role of the female heroine in society. Her figures, often androgynous, float through alternate realities, partially clothed or completely naked. She refuses to accept that she is trying to figure out anything specific about sex. Porrado depicts slender bodies with ball heads and large eyes, emphasizing the figures as temporarily suspended from age with reddish joints at the elbows, knees and shoulders, as if in the process of growing up—mentally and physically.

Her ambitious visions of the future, especially the one around women, is a way to create her own mythology, free from the shackles of reality. Tanako's artistry is so-rarely created that it is ahead of its time. Schematic unknown worlds, fighting ends of society, unformed animal living forms - a dogma of human desire that has yet to be deciphered. He exhibits widely around the world as well as in Galerie Perrotin - Hong Kong and Paris.
