David Carrington is an American businessman and politician from the state of Alabama. Carrington owns RacingUSA.com[1], the country's largest NASCAR memorabilia website, and is a current county commissioner for Jefferson County. Carrington formerly served as a city council member on the Vestavia Hills City Council.[2] Carrington is also a candidate in the 2018 Alabama Gubnatorial race.[3]

Carrington graduated from the University of Houston with an undergraduate degree in mathematics and a graduate degree in business administration.[4]

Personal Life

Carrington has been married to Sonia Carrington since 1971. He has two sons with Sonia, both married. He has 7 total grandchildren between each of his sons[5].

Business Career

Prior to his ownership of RacingUSA.com, Carrington was the vice president of Parisian, a department store based out of Birmingham, Alabama. He was also president of WDC Systems, which would later merge into RacingUSA.[6]

Political Career

Carrington served on the Vestavia Hills City Council for six years, spending his last four as council president. Carrington announced his candidacy for the governorship of Alabama on May 8th, 2017 at Vulcan Statue in Birmingham.[7] Carrington has served on many boards, " including Samford University’s Board of Overseers, the Association of County Commissions of Alabama, the Alabama City/County Management Association, the Executive Committee of the Jefferson County Republican Party, the Jefferson County Department of Health, the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center Authority, the Greater Birmingham Convention & Visitors Bureau, Leadership Birmingham, Leadership Vestavia Hills and the Vestavia Hills’ Chamber of Commerce."[8]

Time as County Commissioner

Carrington was elected to the Jefferson County Comission on November of 2010, and continues to represent its 5th district. During his time on the Comission, Carrington has had tremendous success in boosting the economy of Jefferson County. Carrington served as Comission President, during which time the County was lifted out of bankruptcy. In 2011, Jefferson County filed what was then the largest municipal bankruptcy in United States history (surpassed only by Detroit in 2013.)[9][10] Folllowing his election as Comission President, the Comission restructured, and made many large-scale changes that brought eventual economic growth to the region.[11]

2108 Gubernatorial Campaign

Carrington launched his campaign to be Alabama's 2018 Republican candidate for governor under the slogan "David Carrington, A Governor 4Us."Carrington's campaign stresses leadership, education, economic growth, and anti-corruption. The "4Us" in his slogan is meant to be recognized with his plan for the state, which he separated into "4 U's."[12]
