indoo.rs is a B2B startup company based in Austria that provides indoor positioning and navigation utilizing iBeacons and/or WiFi connections to locate a Bluetooth receiver in an indoor environment.[1][2][3][4]

The technology is implemented through a software development kit (SDK) and is integrated into mobile application. The technology uses sensor fusion, SLAM, Adaptive Kalman filter and PDR. The navigation is also available off-line through the use of the sensors on a mobile device.[5][6]

History[edit]

indoo.rs was founded in 2010 as CustomLBS by Bernd Gruber and Markus Krainz.[7] The company has headquarters and a development office in Vienna and a sales office in San Francisco. The original product was developed based on WiFi and later in 2013 changed to use BLE with a focus on the iBeacon protocol.[8] In 2014 indoo.rs joined STIR.[9]

In 2016, indoo.rs installed over 300 iBeacons at San Francisco International Airport for a project to help visually impaired passengers find their way through the airport’s terminals using a prototype smartphone app. The app comes with a preloaded map of the terminal and uses data from a traveller’s smartphone along with information from nearby beacons and phone signals to triangulate location.[1][6][10]

Indoo.rs was the Winner of World Summit Award Austria 2017,[11] Winner of Smart City App Hack 2015,[12] Winner of Born Global Champion 2015,[13] Winner of Mercur Award 2013,[14] Winner of Jungunternehmer Award 2012,[15] and Winner of Mobile Monday Austria Demo Night 2010.[16]
