The step-by-step guide to cleaning out the assessed redirects and deleted pages, using AWB:

"Follow Redirects" needs to be checked OFF to do anything meaningful with redirects.
  1. Make sure "Follow redirects" is unchecked in the options menu (see right).
  2. Make a list using the "Category (recursive)" option. Use a category such as Category:Video game articles by quality, which has the categories assessment banners add to talk pages.
    • (optional) If your project already actively uses Redirect-Class, you may want to filter those out so you don't have to deal with them later.
  3. Convert the list from talk pages to main-space pages, under the "list" menu.
  4. Filter out all the non-main-space pages (such as categories) and duplicates (if any).
  5. Turn off anything AWB normally does, general fixes and whatnot. The first pass is just to check for redirects and nonexistence.
  6. Under the "Skip" tab in the middle, check "Page is redirect", "No changes are made" and "Non-existent pages".
  7. Start AWB. AWB should skip every single page in the list. This can take a while for large projects.
  8. Now look at your "Logs" tab, which has a list of skipped articles and why they were skipped.
  9. Right-click one of the articles skipped for "no change", and select the option to "Filter Exclude Skip Reason: No Change". Everything remaining in the log was skipped because it is a redirect or the page doesn't exist.
  10. Hit the "add all to list" button, then save the list.
  11. Double-check your (now much shorter) list for false positives, such as the magic word being commented out or randomly inserted into the article.
