Alan Ross

British rock guitarist/vocalist and group leader. Active 1971 -1982.

First surfaced with Ro-Ro's country rock-ish "Meet At The Water" (1972). He then featured on The Who bass guitarist solo albums ("Whistle Rymes" Track records 1972 and "Rigor Mortis Sets In" Track Records 1973) . Ross's falsetto vocals complemented Entwistles growl especially on a cover of the doo-wop standard "Hey Mr Bassman".

Formed "Ross" in 1973, playing a funk/rock style that showed traces of The Doobie Brothers and Dave Mason. Signed to Robert Stigwoods RSO label to release eponymous first l.p. in 1974. This was followed by "The Pit And The Pendulum", largely based upon the Poe story, in early 1975, produced by Doors engineer Bruce Botnick.

In 1977 followed "Are You Free On Saturday?", co-produced by Tony Visconti, and in 1978 "Restless Nights", both for the short-lived Ebony label.

His last appearances were on the Wilson/Gale l.p. "Wrapped Up" and on the soundtrack of Ken Russel's film of The Who's "Tommy" in 1982.
