A term applied by the music press to those young people who in 1979 were highly devoted to Britain's newest popstar, Gary Numan. They dressed like their idol; black shirt, black trousers, side-parting in their either jet black or white blond hair, and wore eye-liner and pale foundation if brave enough to do so. Numanoids had a reputation for fierce loyalty towards their idol who was a figure of great ridicule in the music weeklies. When Radio One held a day of burning Numan records a group of militant Numanoids kidnapped Steve Wright in the afternoon and threatened to shave off his mustache and smash his glasses unless all of Numan records were placed on Radio One's playlist.
