Hasaan Foundation Organizational Profile[edit]

INTRODUCTION

Hasaan Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Nusrullah Balouch, a key member of Balouch family of Multan and D.G. Khan who has started their philanthropic services to the poor since a few decades. Mr. Nusrullah Balouch believes that “the flame of Kiran should never go out of ones life.”

Based in the city of Multan, Punjab, Pakistan, Hasaan Foundation seeks to promote simple, practical and culturally sensitive development interventions following the mandates of participatory, gender-sensitive, and rights-based approaches to sustainable development.

GOAL

Improve the quality of life and empower the poor and marginalized communities, especially women and children, in all working areas without any discrimination against sex, race, caste, religion and social origin.

VISION

Sustainable communities (peaceful, healthy, educated and productive) based on civic sense, social justice, peace and respect, self reliance, and rights-based development.

MISSION

To achieve the vision, Hasaan Foundation will initiate socio-economic development interventions to bring about changes by mobilizing and capacitating the marginalized communities, especially women and children, to transform their lives so that they can undertake their own development as well as help those more needy than them.

OBJECTIVES

The major thrust of Hasaan Foundation is to facilitate gender responsive and sustainable development activities, to include:

1) Conduct baseline studies and relevant researches to better understand and appropriately address the effects of poverty and civil injustices in our designated working areas;

2) Create support systems for children in need by providing Shelter and home environment for abandoned and orphaned children;

3) Help the poor and marginalized children learn and access their rights and entitlements irregardless of faith, sex or religion;

4) Spearhead and continue awareness initiatives against the use of illicit drugs, the negative consequences of its use and create an enabling environment for productive activities such as sports competition, health and livelihood promoting youth clubs, among others;

5) Establish institutions that promote and enhance human capital development like schools, recreation centres, community and health centres in the working areas;

6) Undertake health education activities geared at women’s and children’s health, diseases awareness , prevention and care giving; and the promotion of hygienic and healthy living practices; (awareness raising, training , health camps, etc;

7) Provide necessary health services and facilities to the poor and marginalized, particularly women and children, where possible. Organize and provide emergency mobile health units in remote and difficult parts of the working areas;

8) Conduct advocacy campaigns on environmental protection, solid waste management, water and sanitation, and other emerging issues that affects human existence;

9) Establish vocational centers that will provide knowledge, attitudes, skills and practices to men and women pursuing self employment and/or finding a job;

10) Provide start up capital to women, men, and youth groups who wish to pursue their own businesses;

11) Organize cultural awareness events, at local, national and international levels to deepen understanding and appreciation of different values systems; learn different cultures and promote tolerance and acceptance of values and cultures of people in the East and West, among others.

GEOGRAPHIC AREA COVERAGE

The NGO will have its headquarters in Multan City while covering the Districts Multan, Muzaffarghar ,Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur, respectively. In the long term, the NGO hopes to gradually expand in other parts of the country..


TARGET GROUP

Children, teenagers, and adult women and men in the community who wants to make a difference in their own lives.

Hasaan Foundation Program Activities Program activities are directly annexed to relevant programs to provide consistency and clarity of purpose.

1) Social Mobilization. The poor and marginalized segments of society are usually very shy and timid despite the depth of their life’s basic needs. These cohorts mostly represent those who are deeply impoverished, powerless and have “no rights” in society. Social organization, emersion or mobilization are the basis for reaching out to these poor and marginalized communities that HF wants to serve now and the future, hence activities under this program /section include:

a. Situational Analysis

• Baseline study of the area covered

• Participatory Rural Appraisal

• Area Selection – selection of marginalized areas and people to work with development of a criteria area and people selection

• Conduct baseline study that will result in a situational analysis, an important tool for planning interventions and project development;

b. Planning

c. Social emersion and organization

d. Participatory planning and project implementation

2) Shelter Program

The shelter program will be initialized by: a. Setting up of an Orphanage for abandoned, orphaned or homeless children b. Manning the orphanage/shelter home/ Hiring people to manage and run the orphanage c. Develop criteria of children to be enrolled d. Registration of children e. Managing the Orphanage f. Feeding, clothing, medical treatment, education and training these children as productive and responsible citizens of the community, among others.

3) Education

a. Fundraising for the schools establishment and management i. Sponsor a school ii. Sponsor a child iii. Donations from local philanthropists iv. Others

b. Building up of schools for the poor and marginalized segments of rural Southern Punjab, including the orphaned, abandoned and homeless children (girls and boys); i. Preparatory ii. Primary iii. Elementary (optional at this time) iv. Secondary (optional at this time) v. Area selection for school construction vi. School construction


c. Hiring of teachers (female and male) and Principal d. Enrollment of poor and marginalized girl and boy children e. Starting running the school f. Forming the parents-teachers’ association or school management committee g. others

4) Health

a. Awareness on drug abuse, consequences, prevention and rehabilitation b. Establishment of mobile clinics in the remote rural areas of Southern Punjab, i.e. Multan, Muzaffarghar ,D.G. Khan and Rajanpur. c. Establishment of a 75—bed referral hospital for the poor and marginalized in Multan d. Establishment of a rehabilitation center cum hospital for Drug abuse patients; e. Others

5) Sustainable Livelihoods ( fight poverty and enable people to help themselves)

a. Organizing women and men for socio economic development activities where they are and with what they have, beginning with natural resources management, enterprise development and Microfinance programs. b. Establishment of a vocational/trade center to develop people skills to earn decent livelihoods c. Provision of Micro finance d. Assistance in Marketing these people’s products to a market that will pay for it; e. Developing products with the market in mind.


6) Special Humanitarian Services may include but not limited to:

a. Assistance to marry poor girls b. Funeral services for unidentified deceased persons

7) Research and Advocacy a. Conduct of action and empirical research i.e. baseline study, small market studies as a tool for project planning, advocacy campaigns development and to establish and record facts and figures about a District/location situation; b. To prepare and launch advocacy campaigns for people to access their basic and political rights, i.e. the right to access information; the right to be registered at birth, the right to vote, the right to food, health services, etc. c. To establish and track developments brought about by the intervention of Hasaan Foundation, among others.


8) Training and Manpower Development

This component of the program narrows the gap of knowledge, attitudes and practices among HF employees and target beneficiaries. Activities may include: a. Conduct of Training Needs Assessment b. Development of Training Modules and materials c. Identification of resources persons d. Administer and manage training programs relating to all other programs of the HF. e. Conduct post training evaluations

9) Monitoring , Evaluation and Documentation

This program or section is responsible in tracking the various program activities of the organization and finding out if the activities undertaken coincide with the agreed Program/project objectives and outcomes. Activities under this Program/Section may include: a. Planning and project development (including work plans, etc) b. regular monitoring - monthly/quarterly monitoring of planned activities c. mid-term review of program progress d. Preparation of Quarterly progress reports e. Writing of Annual reports f. Internal Audit (social audit of the Organization)

Organizational Development
