Development

[edit]

At the age of 10, Christian Redl learned scuba diving. The film "The big blue" awoke his interest in freediving. He was only 17 years old at that time.

He started his professional career as an investment banker at a major austrian bank. He also attended numerous apnea competitions. After he has finished the Apnea Academy Instructor class (with Umberto Pelizzari) he was able to work as a freediving instructor as a side job.

At the age of 30 he decided to turn his life upside down and has been working as an athlete and freediving instructor worldwide since then. He passes on the experiences he earned in competitions to people in mental seminars.

His association "7 Oceans – for the love of the oceans", founded in 2021, is committed to the conservation of the oceans. Creating awareness of the seven main problems of the oceans is the main goal of this project.

He has been married since September 2020.

In 2022, he started working with the start-up Skytraders, an ambitious online broker.

Courses

[edit]

Christian Redl is a certified apnea instructor of the CMAS, PADI and SSI associations.  Apnea classes are held regularly in pools and open water around the world. In those classes, students are taught both, theory and practice of freediving  (breathing techniques, relaxation techniques, rescue techniques, distance and deep diving, statics).

Ice hockey under ice

[edit]

Christian Redl is the creator of the Ice Hockey under Ice World Championship, which took place on February 25, 2007 at Lake Weissensee in Carinthia for the first time. Which eight nations (Austria, Germany, Finland, Holland, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland) have participated in. In ice hockey under ice, the goals are fixed upside down under the ice and an area measuring 8 × 6 meters is marked. Two players per team play against each other, who  are equipped with a diving suit, mask, fins and an ice hockey stick. The goal of the game is to shoot a styrofoam puck into the opponent's goal as often as possible. To breathe, holes outside the playing field are cut into the ice. 3 thirds of 10 minutes each are played.

From 15th to 16th February 2013, the World Championship in Ice Hockey under Ice took place at Weissensee in Carinthia for the second time.

The 3rd Ice Hockey under Ice World Championship occurred in 2020.
