Lobbying organizations in Alberta are regulated by the Lobbyists Act and are listed in the Alberta Lobbyist Registry, "an online registration system which lobbyists use to register their lobbying activities in Alberta".

Background[edit]

One of the first lobby groups in Alberta was the Alberta Stock Growers' Association (ASGA), which was established by "gentlemen ranchers" in 1890 organized to lobby the government about public policies related to imports and exports, land leases, and tariffs.[1] For twenty years, the ASGA succeeded in assuring that the well-watered land was leased to "large ranching companies", and that tariffs favoured Alberta's beef exporters and kept out "competition from ranchers and farmers in the US."[1]

In 2011, there were about "300 and 400 lobbyists working for organizations in Alberta, plus another 175 consultant lobbyists."[1]

  • Alberta Beef Producers
