Collection

[edit]

The gallery’s permanent collection is focused primarily on contemporary Canadian art, with a particular emphasis on artists who have lived or worked in British Columbia. The collection includes work by Barbara Astman, B.C. Binning, Pierre Coupey, Ann Kipling, Daphne Odjig, Jane Sasaki, Brian Wood, and Jin-Me Yoon.

Building

[edit]

The gallery was originally housed within the City of Kamloops Museum at 207 Seymour Street. The gallery moved to its current location, the Thompson Nicola Regional District Civic Building, in 1998. The building, which is shared with the Kamloops branch of the Thompson Nicola Regional District Library System and the headquarters of the Thompson-Nicola Regional District, was designed by Peter Cardew Architects and Nigel Baldwin Architects and won the 1998 Canadian Architect Award of Excellence.[2]

Community outreach

[edit]

The gallery offers programming for adults, children, seniors, and the First Nations community, including studio programs, school programs, tours, workshops, and guest lectures. The gallery is also involved in the Art in the Hospital program, which installs contemporary Canadian art in Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.
