Cyprian Chotyniecki (Kiprian; born December 4, 1866 in Hruszatyce, died October 26, 1942 in Jarosław) - canon, pastor of the Greek Catholic parish in Jarosław. Founder and chairman of Ukrainian societies in Jarosław, member of the "Eparchal Assistance" Branch in Przemyśl. The author of the "Passion Sermons", published in 1901, was buried on Saturday in the old cemetery of the city of Yaroslavl (Sector: 27, Row: 5, Number: 10), with the presence of Holiness Bishop Grigory Lakota.
Biography[edit]
He was born into the family of a Greek Catholic priest, Jan and Izabela (née Zeeligman) Chotynecki. After graduating from the gymnasium in Przemyśl (1886) and the seminary in 1891, he was ordained a priest on December 27, 1891 in Przemyśl. Catechist of the gymnasium in Jarosław (February 15, 1892 - 1906). After the death of his father, priest Ioan (Jan) Chotyniecki, he continued his work and became a parish priest and dean of the Greek Catholic parish in Jarosław. He ascended the throne on September 1, 1906 and remained on it until the day of his death on November 26, 1942.
From 1912, he held many important church functions, including consul of the episcopal consistory, dean, commissioner for secondary schools in Jarosław, episcopal delegate to the Council of Schools of the Jarosław District and honorary canon of the Chapter of Przemyśl. He was a grammar school Greek Catholic catechist (1899–1906) and a diocesan inspector (1928–1931). He was a co-founder and president of the Society of Bursa św. Onufry, the Society of Townspeople and Craftsmen "Rodyna" (1905-1942) and the "Proswita" Society (1910-1942), as well as a co-founder (in 1929) of the Poviat Union of Cooperatives in Jarosław. It was thanks to him that the orphanage was established at Pełkińska Street and that the Sisters Servants of the Immaculate Virgin Mary were brought in to run it. In the years 1918–1924 and 1928–1939 he was a city councillor. Councilor of the district council in the years 1919–1934, 1939.
After the Germans entered Jarosław in 1939, he was appointed one of the city's 47 hostages.
He was involved in the conservation and care of the miraculous Jarosław Icon of the Mother of God "The Gate of Mercy", and in 1929 he initiated the necessary activities for its official coronation. Later, this initiative was supported by Bishop Josaphat_Kotsylovsky, but the beginning of World War II and the ban on the activities of Greek Catholic churches made it impossible to complete this process.
