Otan-Ile is a small town situated in Obokun II local government area of Osun State, Southwest of Nigeria. It is one of prominent town in Ijeshaland. Obokun local government also consists of other towns such as Ilare, Imesi-Ile e.t.c.

History

According to history, Otan-Ile was founded by one of Oduduwa's sons named Akindugba a notable warrior. Otan-Ile popular panegyrics is "Otan afole awotepekun" meaning that our ancestor are hunter and warrior. The taboo for indigene of this community both home and abroad is eating of dogs. It was said to have been forbideen by Olotan dated back to our ancestor.

Otan Ayegbaju are descendants of Otan-Ile and which has identical history, customs, rites, ceremonies, taboos, streets and chieftaincy titles with Otan-Ile till today. Olotan's crown is beaded crown due to being direct descendant from Ile-Ife.

There ar two ruling houses in Otan Ile, named Libayan and Lesiowa ruling houses. The current Olotan is from Libayan ruling house. There also a popular festival named Oroke observed every year at Igbo Oluwa by indigene and visitors to celebrate our ancestors. Name of some of the streets are Inigbo, Imojigbon, Ehindi, Imuo, idofin,e.t.c.

The Owa Afole Of Otan-Ile is the title given to the King. The current Owa Afole is His Royal Majesty Oba Samuel Sunday Olatokun (JP).


Geography

Otan-Ile is located at an elevation of 461 meters above sea level and its population amounts to 71,657. Its coordinates are 7°49'0" N and 4°46'60" E in DMS (Degrees Minutes Seconds) or 7.81667 and 4.78333 (in decimal degrees).
