Evaluate an article[edit]

This is where you will complete your article evaluation. Please use the template below to evaluate your selected article.

  • Marcel Duchamp (Marcel Duchamp)
  • I have chosen to evaluate this article because I have always found conceptual art and artists interesting and would like to add my input to this article and help improve or make suggestions to this article.

Lead[edit]

Guiding questions

The Lead concisely and effectively introduces the article's topic without being too detailed. The Lead does not include descriptions of the major sections of the article. However, since the article is fairly long, I feel that this would be unnecessary. The current Lead includes enough information to introduce the article but is also concise.

  • The Lead includes an introductory sentence that concisely and clearly describes the article's topic?
  • Does the Lead include a brief description of the article's major sections?
  • Does the Lead include information that is not present in the article?
  • Is the Lead concise or is it overly detailed?

Lead evaluation[edit]

Content[edit]

Guiding questions

All content in the article is relevant and up to date. However, I do not understand the inclusion of lengthy information and separate sections dedicated to singular artworks. I feel that the article could benefit from the use of these artworks as support for other content but not necessarily as lengthy, stand-alone sections.

  • Is the article's content relevant to the topic?
  • Is the content up-to-date?
  • Is there content that is missing or content that does not belong?

Content evaluation[edit]

Tone and Balance[edit]

Guiding questions

The article is neutral and there are no claims that appear to be heavily biased toward a particular position. This article consists of much biography and analysis of Duchamp's work, so there are no specific viewpoints overrepresented or underrepresented and the article does not attempt to persuade the reader in any way.

  • Is the article neutral?
  • Are there any claims that appear heavily biased toward a particular position?
  • Are there viewpoints that are overrepresented, or underrepresented?
  • Does the article attempt to persuade the reader in favor of one position or away from another?

Tone and balance evaluation[edit]

Sources and References[edit]

Guiding questions

The article includes a lengthy list of notes and citations that are taken from both past and current sources, all of which seem reliable. Facts seem to be backed up and all the links I checked worked.

  • Are all facts in the article backed up by a reliable secondary source of information?
  • Are the sources thorough - i.e. Do they reflect the available literature on the topic?
  • Are the sources current?
  • Check a few links. Do they work?

Sources and references evaluation[edit]

Organization[edit]

Guiding questions

The article is lengthy but includes all relevant and helpful information. There are very minimal or no spelling or grammatical errors.

  • Is the article well-written - i.e. Is it concise, clear, and easy to read?
  • Does the article have any grammatical or spelling errors?
  • Is the article well-organized - i.e. broken down into sections that reflect the major points of the topic?

Organization evaluation[edit]

Images and Media[edit]

Guiding questions

The article includes images of the artist as well as some of his artworks that were mentioned or are relevant to the content of the article. All the images have helpful and relevant captions and the images I checked were all in the public domain and therefore in accordance with Wikipedia's copyright regulations.

  • Does the article include images that enhance understanding of the topic?
  • Are images well-captioned?
  • Do all images adhere to Wikipedia's copyright regulations?
  • Are the images laid out in a visually appealing way?

Images and media evaluation[edit]

Checking the talk page[edit]

Guiding questions

Conversations about the inclusion of certain sections or phrases and their relevance to the overall understanding of the article. The article has a "B" rating.

  • What kinds of conversations, if any, are going on behind the scenes about how to represent this topic?
  • How is the article rated? Is it a part of any WikiProjects?
  • How does the way Wikipedia discusses this topic differ from the way we've talked about it in class?

Talk page evaluation[edit]

Overall impressions[edit]

Guiding questions

The article is well-developed but can be improved by reassessing the inclusion of certain sections that focus on singular pieces by Duchamp. I think certain artworks would be better used as support for other sections rather than have their own dedicated sections.

  • What is the article's overall status?
  • What are the article's strengths?
  • How can the article be improved?
  • How would you assess the article's completeness - i.e. Is the article well-developed? Is it underdeveloped or poorly developed?
