Dr. Garima Srivastava[edit]

Dr. Garima Srivastava is a renowned contemporary Indian writer and a professor at the Centre of Indian languages, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India. With a career that spans across 25 years, Dr. Srivastava has diligently worked and contributed extensively to the fields of ‘Gynocriticism’, ‘Colonial and Post-colonial Indian Literature’ and ‘Women Autobiographical Writing’. She is also an eminent columnist of prominent Hindi dailies, such asJansatta and Navbharat Times.

Early Life and Education[edit]

Dr. Garima Srivastava pursued her Master of Arts in Hindi literature from the Hindu College, Delhi University, India. After that, she went on to acquireM.Phil and Ph.D from the North Campus, Delhi University.


Academic Career[edit]

Throughout her academic career, Dr. Srivastava has undertaken numerous research projects of social or literary significance. A few of her most acclaimed research works include ‘Hindi Sahitya meinStriVisheyakVichaar aur Avadharnaen-Madhyakal aur AadhunikKalkeVisheshSandarbh, ‘Literary Criticism in Hindi and Bangla-A Comparative Study on the Main Arguments’ and ‘Early Nineteenth Century Conduct Books for Women- Special Reference to North India’.

As a keen analyst of Indian women writers, Dr. Srivastava undertook her M.Philresearch on ‘Krishna Sobti- kritEkLarki ka Alochanatamak Adhyayan’. Her thesis for Ph.D focused on ‘Swatantryotar Hindi Upanyason Mein BouddhikVicharVimarsh ki Rachanatmak Bhoomika’. She has extensive experience of 25 years in the field of research, the dedication and craft are visible throughout her projects and publications.


Professional Career[edit]

Dr. Srivastava started off her career in 1995 as an Assistant Professor (CGO-1) at Army Cadet College Wing, Indian Military Academy Dehradun, (An army training college affiliated to JNU, New Delhi, India), where inshe trained officer trainees of the Army in Hindi language for two years. In 1997, she joinedDepartment of Hindi, Visvabharati International University, Santiniketan, West Bengal, India as an Assistant Professor and continued to serve there and became Associate Professor in 2005. After serving for one yearin Santiniketan,Dr. Srivastava joined the Department of Hindi, Hyderabad Central University and served as a Professortill 2015.

Her keen interest in spreading Hindi as a global language is evident from the teaching assignments she had undertaken throughout her career. She had taught the Foreign Casual Course to students from various foreign countries such as France,Croatia,Germany and Bangladesh for Eight years. Shealso served as the Visiting Professor on Hindi Chair at Philosophy Facultate, University of Zagreb, Croatia during 2010-2011. Her has extensive teaching experience spans over from undergraduate to Ph D levels. Currently, Dr. Srivastava is a Professor at the Centre for Indian languages,School of Languages and literature JNU,New Delhi, India.

Translated Books[edit]

  1.      Jarwa Bhasha Ka Swanimik Adhyayan(Published by the Anthropological Survey of India, Kolkata,2000) :Originally written in English by R Senkuttuvan, the book is based on the phonetical study of 450 lexical items of Jarva language. This project work of translation, sponsored by Anthropological Survey of India, Kolkata, was undertaken with a view to help the NGOs working in Andaman Nicobar islands.
  2.      A Very Easy Death (Published by Swaraj Publication, New Delhi) – 2012 :Originally written in French by known French Feminist Simone- De -Beauvoir, as one of her autobiographical volume. The book was translated in Hindi for the very first time.
  3.      Jhooth ka Thaila (Published by the National Book Trust of India) – 2012 :This is a poetic translation of Croatian folk stories.It has been translated in Punjabi and Odia.
  4.      Sandehaspad(under publication 2021)A  collection of Brazillian short stories translated in Hindi.

Other Achievements and Recognition[edit]

Dr. Garima Srivastava was a member of advisory Committee for UGC-DSAP in Cochin University of Science and Technology from 2014 to 2019.She is the member of Committee for Institutional Academic Integrity Panel (IAIP)for three years (August2018 to August2021) established by MGAHVV,Wardha. She is the member of different academic bodies in many Central Universities. She has severalpublications and/or contributed to more than seventy five papers, among which AbhishaptAtmaon ka Alaap,Navjagran,Acharanpustken aur StriPrashn,Sewa ka SadanYahusn ka Bazar,Aupniveshik Bharat aur Bangla StriAtmkathayen,Awaazen jo suni nahingayinetc.She has participated in many International conferences as well as seminars. She delivered many lectures across the country and had taken part in numerous literary workshops.

In 2007, Dr. Srivastava was invited to talk as ‘Rail Budget Expert’ on ETV, which was a live telecast from Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad. She also had participated as an expert in the Union Budget on ETV Urdu for three consecutive years. She hasnumerous broadcast in All India Radio and recitedmany of her poetries. In 2018, Dr. Srivastava participated in a discussion on ‘Hindi Travelogue Writing’ organized by Sahitya AajTak.

Be it her discussions on ‘Feminism Beyond Boundaries’(organised By ApneAap women worldwide and Oxford Book Centre) or her thought-provoking views on War and Women (Nehru Memorial Museum and Library,Teenmurti), Dr. Srivastava has never shied away from touching the‘untouchable subjects’ which is required to be made audible for the literary realm of India. She has a whopping 98 library holdings and works to her credit, published across three languages.

Currently, Dr. Srivastava is engaged in research on ‘The War Victims’.
