The California Stop is the illegal driving habit of slowing down but not coming to a full and complete stop at a stop sign [1][2]. It has been described as "Kind of slowing just enough to- ... and then you go on".

California Stops are quite common [3], and one survey at a random California intersection found that only 16.67% of California drivers came to a full and complete stop [4].

A popular related saying is "no cop, no stop."

The California stop can also refer to a PIT maneuver.
