Protopia
[edit]Protopia is a recent term related to Utopia and Dystopia. It is considered either as the middle way between these two or "a third way"[1] alternative. Instead of focusing on extremes such as irreparably corrupted society contrasting with flawless ideals, protopia takes more realistic approach and aims to improve society slowly but steadily. This leads to incremental progress toward a better world. In the protopian mode, things are better today than they were yesterday, although only a little better and small incremental changes lead to more noticeable over time. "It is incremental improvement or mild progress."[2]
Advocates of the protopian concept believe it offers a more realistic, more humane and potentially more inclusive pathway to a better future.
The term was coined by futurist Kevin Kelly, founding editor at WIRED magazine.[3]
