Caleb Nelson (born March 31, 1984) is an adventurer. After graduating from Lansing Community College Cal began working for General Motors. During his stint with the company he was periodically laid off and had idle time to do as he pleased. After receiving his tax rebate check from the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 he began to wonder how to spend the money in order to do his part in stimulating the American economy. He eventually decided to go on journey from his hometown of Potterville, Michigan to Beaver, OK to compete in the World Cow Chip Throwing Championship [1] . He recruited his twin brother, Jake Nelson, and best friend Preston Dahlgren to join the journey.
Cal is the son of Larry Nelson and Renee Groh and was born in Lansing, Michigan. He primarily grew up in the town of Potterville, Michigan until his adult years. He is also the second cousin to professional hunter, Tom Nelson [2].
Throughout his childhood Cal made many efforts to explore the environments around him. He recalls distant memories of “frog hunting” with spears and shooting inanimate objects with a potato gun.
Long journey into Beaver
[edit]Making the 1,200 mile journey[3] from Potterville, Michigan to Beaver, Oklahoma took Cal and his companions two and a half days due to a vehicular setback. Once entering Oklahoma it was a straight penetration into Beaver by traveling on U.S. 64.
World Cow Chip Throwing Championship
[edit]There are only three simple rules for the competition: [4] ]
No. 1: The chips must be at least six inches in diameter. No. 2: Each contestant gets two throws, with the goal to chuck the chip as far as possible without throwing it out of bounds. No. 3: No Gloves.
