About[edit]

Albert Lopez Jr. is a multimedia artist and creator from Santa Ana, California. Santa Ana has been his inspiration and pushed him to receive a higher education, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Cal State Long Beach and a Masters of Fine Arts from University of California, Irvine. Being the eldest of four and the son of immigrant parents has empowered Lopez to utilize art as a means of communication. For Lopez, art has always been a means of expressing his need to delve into conceptual realms. Throughout his career, Lopez has been proud to create social relevance and continue to dialogue about how we coexist.

In 2005, Lopez exhibited several paintings from his series "Donkey Series." One work, titled Half Ass Donkey caught the eye of actor and art collector Cheech Marin. Cheech purchases the piece from the gallery and is now in his personal collection. Half Ass Donkey has since toured around the world as part of Cheech's "Chicano Dreams" exhibition. In 2014, the piece traveled to Bordeaux, France and was featured in The New York Times in anticipation of the show. Half Ass Donkey is now part of the Cheech Marin’s Chicano Art Museum open in Riverside, California.
