The Brighton High School Baroque Orchestra (related to Baroque Orchestra) is an orchestra in the High School of Brighton, NY where the dedication of repertoire is exclusively in the baroque style. This group is considered one of the first of its kind where the Baroque styled orchestra is an official group on the high school level. The orchestra is made up of nearly twenty students who express an interest in baroque music. Rehearsals lead up to several concert that the orchestra will have planned every year.

History

As of September 2008 ambitious students Peter Grassl and David Schwartz formed a dream. With a collaboration of ideas and hopes, a group of eight students, along with the teacher advisor Kimberly Zentz, met for their first rehearsal. Under Peter Grassl, as Director and continuo keyboardist, as well as David Schwartz, as principle Cellist, the group worked through several baroque style repertoire pieces. From week to week the rehearsals of this orchestra grow in numbers and the talent of these Brighton students becomes exposed in their expressions of a love for baroque music.

Future

The future holds many exciting opportunities for this group of baroque musicians. It is likely that following a debut in the Brighton High School performing arts concert, the orchestra will venture to perform in churches and performing halls throughout the city of Rochester, NY. Rochester is known for its growing number of historic instruments and groundbreaking baroque instrument construction projects. The baroque orchestra of Brighton will surely work to perform in collaboration with these instruments.
