Our slogan is "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit"

Which of the three parts of that tagline is most important to the project named the "English Wikipedia"? The fact that it is an encyclopedia project, a free content project, or a wiki-based project? Please rank them from what you view as most important to what you view as least important in comparison to the other two entries.

  4. Free-content = Encyclopedia = a community effort > wiki-based. I think being free content, an encyclopedia, and a community effort are equally important and that all three are more important than "wiki-based". Wiki is just technology.
I thought it's important to note that there are lots of encyclopedias out there, many of them online and no cost. Some of them arguably better, and often regarded as better, than Wikipedia. Wikipedia is the only sizable encyclopedia which is free content or wiki-based. Other Wiki based encyclopedias (none are really sizable yet) don't seem to be going the free content route (e.g. Citizendium leaning -NC licensed) ... and of course the ones based on WP would not be possible if WP were not free content. --Gmaxwell 02:08, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
  5. Free content > wiki-based > encyclopedia. I wouldn't contribute if it wasn't free-content. I couldn't contribute if it wasn't wiki-based. The fact that it's an extensive collection of useful information is more important than it being an encyclopedia (to me). Megapixie 10:04, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
  6. Encyclopedia = free-content > wiki-based. ~ Sebi 22:17, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
  7. Encyclopedia > free content > wiki-based. — H2O —  09:05, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
  8. Encyclopedia < wiki-based < free-content. In reverse order, just to be difficult :) encyclopedia at the bottom, per Megapixie (talk · contribs) - s/he makes an excellent point, and I'm definitely in that particular school of thought. Anthøny 11:01, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
  9. Encyclopedia > wiki-based > free-content. First and foremost, it's an encyclopedia. Secondly, YOU can edit it. Thirdly, all material is released under a free license--this is, I believe, the least important to most of our visitors, and it's not that important to me. (Mind you, it is still important!)
