Nrip Nihalani is a Health Care Technology Expert. He is an advocate of using technology to improve Indian Health care with a strong focus on Information Therapy, Informed Consents, Online Collaborative Patient Work Groups and Distributed Electronic Medical Records.
In college, Nrip started working on a prototype for a flexible Cellular Simulation Engine. In 2000, he along with some of his buddies worked on building a Cellular Simulator Prototype for GPRS, a 2.5G Cellular System and IS-95. Further , in 2001 Nrip built one for UMTS(a 3G system) and one for CDMA2000. In 2001, a Bangalore based consulting asked Nrip to come on board for building newer prototypes.
Nrip was a graduate of the 2nd batch at Wireless@KTH and worked there on co-operative relaying systems. Besides that, in Stockholm, Nrip worked on Novel Speech Codecs based on G.729 and their implementation on Next Generation DSP's. Nrip also headed the GPRS sub-group in a SCINT and ERA sponsored Online Gaming Project at KTH.
Nrip started looking at solving problems specific to Indian healthcare in 2006, and to make it a focused approach he co-founded Plus91 alongwith Aditya Patkar and Kunaal Agashe. The 3 spent 20 months worked towards understanding the Indian Healthcare sector and working/reworking and creating softwares to solve problems which doctors and medical staff in high volume medical establishments faced. They regularly spent days inside different public hospitals and private clinics experimenting with different processes and software approaches. This formed the basis of numerous relationships and conceptual products which were eventually launched in 2009 and 2010. This period also became the basis for the Medical Pain Point Analysis program that Plus91 eventually adopted to run as a project to constantly keep learning of new problems in the Indian Healthcare Sector.
He is a part of the Patient Information and Education Trust and works with numerous groups focused on Improved Information Therapy, Patient Safety, eHealth via EMR Adoption, Technology for Doctors and Telemedicine.
