- Attended Culver Military Academy in Culver, Indiana
- Attended St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York
Early Career

- Worked for Life Saver candy??
- Purchased a lighting company that ended up doing the lighting for the facade of the Empire State Building and interior lighting in parts of the Rockefeller Center
- Got involved with American Homes, Inc. a company that made prefabricated homes and was backed, in part by industrialist Owen D. Young
