Sri. Prathapan with his knowledge and experience. He is a sincere social worker located in Alappuzha district of Kerala. After his college studies he engaged in educating those who could not go to school due to adverse circumstances. Sri Prathapan inspired by the ideologies propagated by late Sri. P.N. Panicker, who was the founder of libraries system in Kerala, joined the Kerala Non Formal Education and Development (KANFED). Being a disciple of P.N. Panicker, a renoured Gandiayan Sri. Prathapan started non formal education centers enrolling those who lived below poverty line and downtrodden.
He organized Neethimelas with the Cooperation of People Council for Social Justice. A series of cases were settled out of court especially family disputes. He could conduct several awareness camps benefitting the rural peoples. Labour Education Camps with the assistance of Govt. of India were conducted. These camps were helped the Labourers to know about their rights and responsibilities.
A seminar on ‘Human Rights ‘ organized by Sri. Prathapan in Cherthala town was inaugurated by Rtd. Hon. Justice Sri V.R. Krishna Iyyer. Another seminar on “Domestic Violence” organized with the assistance of PCSJ was inaugurated by Hon. Justice Mr. V.R. Hariharan Nair. Awareness camp on women Empowerment and their Legal Support, Right of children etc. was conducted with help of PCSJ and KELSA which was inaugurated by Hon. Justice Sri. Ramachandran Nair. The slogan of Sri. P.N. Panicker to attain overall development by regular reading has inspired Sri. Prathapan.
His idea is to distribute quality books among public for regular reading. He has arranged a mobile library in an Ambassador Car and travelled every nook and corner of all panchayat in Pattanakkad block panchayat areas to make the people aware of importance of reading. The desire of Sri. Prathapan is to distribute books among public in mobile library for regular reading which may benefit individually and pursue them to involve in the development activities voluntarily.
Such a society involving responsible citizens will be an asset to the progressing nation Sri. Prathapan has established as social organization namely “ Kerala Rural Development Association”. His enthusiasm to build up a society of mutual help and culture is praiseworthy. He scarified his good younger days for uplifting deserving peoples in all respects. His sincere services to the society have gained nothing in the life of Sri. Prathapan, except his wife and two children.
