Ephraim Ball
[edit]Ephraim Ball (November 25,1812-January 1, 1873) was an American inventor, industrialist, manufacturer, and Union Army Colonel of the 162nd Ohio Infantry.
Early Life and family
[edit]Ephraim was born November 25, 1812 in Greentown, Ohio. He was the son of William Condon Ball and Elizabeth E. Ball (nee Arnold). [2] Ephraim was raised in a large pioneer family originating in Maryland. His mother and father moved to Ohio in 1810 in search of affordable land to raise crops. Ball had six siblings. In 1834, Ball married Lavinia Babb in Portage County, Ohio. The couple would go on to raise 14 children.
