AIESEC NIT Silchar [1] is an entity of the global youth organisation AIESEC that seeks to develop socially responsible leadership amongst students of NIT Silchar through international internships and leadership development modules for students and recent graduates offered by AIESEC, the world's largest student organization. It is based in National Institute of Technology, Silchar, Assam , India. It is the only AIESEC chapter in North East India as in 2012 with a strength of more than 34 members. It is started as an expansion initiative of AIESEC in IIT Delhi in 2011 and was recognized as the "Best Innovation" and "Pioneering Virtual Local Committee" by AIESEC India in 2012[citation needed].

Brief Overview of AIESEC[edit]

AIESEC is the largest student run organizations in the world. As of August 2012, the AIESEC network includes over 82,000 members in 110 countries and territories, being present in over 2,100 universities across the globe, provides more than 20,000 leadership experiences to its members and sends students and graduates on 16,000 international exchanges yearly.[1] AIESEC is supported by over 4,000 of partner organizations around the globe who look to AIESEC to support the development of youth and to access talented individuals keen on personal growth. The idea behind AIESEC started in the 1930s, when representatives from schools across Europe exchanged information about various programs and schools that specialized in business and economics. AIESEC was officially founded in 1948.

AIESEC identifies itself as "the international platform for young people to explore and develop their leadership potential". To maintain its relevance in the face of changing international relations, AIESEC expands the organization to new regions periodically, a process which is outlined in the organization's global compendium. AIESEC in NIT Silchar, is such an initiative to reach out a whole new region and a new segment of the population altogether, the North East of India, comprising of the 7 states and its rich cultural diversity,with it being the first ever chapter to be established in the region.

History of AIESEC in NIT Silchar[edit]

AIESEC in NIT Silchar was established in 2011 as an expansion of [2] by Roshan Farhan. It is technically a virtual Local Committee, one of the first ever Virtual LCs of AIESEC India[citation needed]. This local chapter had a tremendous start and it rose in terms of exchange and membership[vague]. Since then it has had substantial growth in all sectors[quantify]. AIESEC in NIT Silchar has showcased a strong people-oriented culture and an undying hunger for achievement[vague].

Outgoing exchange (OGX)[edit]

The core of what AIESEC does is exchanges, so OGX Department is one of the most important operation centres of AIESEC. It encompasses the local student sector wherein a select group of individuals go for international internships in various countries across the world. It follows a strict selection procedure which filters the Exchange Participants through various competency and expectation levels.

Communications and information management (CIM)[edit]

This sector is broadly divided into Communications and Information Management. The Communications section takes care of all Marketing and advertising avenues of the LC[expand acronym]. They keep an account of the LC's reach in terms of online and print media. Information Management collates all the data generated in the LC. They are responsible for maintaining all the Wikis and also the technological innovations that the LC has to undertake.

External Relations (ER)[edit]

The External Relations dept. takes care of all partnerships this local chapter has with other organizations. The core aspect of this department is to formulate and deliver all aspects of CRM and building new associations with other companies and organizations.

Finance[edit]

Finance handles the overall budgeting and auditing of all financial transactions of this LC.
