Jessie Dean

[1]Jessie Dean (on the right).

Jessie Dean was the first female Chief Inspector of Leeds City Police, gaining the title in 1955. She set up the first Women’s Section of the Leeds City Police Force.

She followed the patrol model of policing, developed during the First World War to regulate streets and public places. Barbara Denis de Vitré OBE[2] described her as "keen, go ahead and controlling her department very well."[3]
