This is a tribute to Kadampuzha Achutha Variar who happens to be my grand father too and his involvement in developing the temple and helping it achieve the popularity it has now.It is almost 30 years since he has passed away. This article would be a fitting tribute to the great person whom I had secretly adored for his simple ways of living. Kadampuzha Achutha Variar was born in Maane Mangalam Variam of Karkidaga Kunnu village somewhere near Kadampuzha.Though I don't remember about my great grand mother,I faintly remember his mother Madhavi Varasiar. He had one sister who passed away without any offspring. Kadampuzha Achutha Variar married Parakutty Varasiar of Pulpetta Variam ie. my maternal grand mother.According to my mother Smt.Pullpetta Kamalam Varsiar who is about 76yrs,now residing in Chennai,Kadampuzha temple was owned by Chengalottu Namboodri earlier, and as he found it difficult to run the temple it was handed over to my grand father's uncle who after some years handed over the temple and it's responsibility to my grand father Achutha Variar. It was Achutha Variar who shouldered not only the resonsibility of repairing and building the temple but also entire resonsibility of buying pooja materials and other things required for the temple. He arranged for the priest too to do the daily poojas.Gradually people started visiting the temple and the fame of the temple began to spread nearby and far off places. The Kerala Devaswom Board took over the temple in due course. The Kazhakam is now done for 5 months by his sons and at present it is done by his youngest son P.Somasundaram. Achutha Variar and Parakutty Varasiar is survived now by only 2 children one being my mother and other my uncle who resides in Kadampuzha 'four of his other children are no more.Almost all of Achuta varier's grand chilren are well settled some in US some in Australia and India.
