Historical Edit Antecedents Edit The islet and its neighbor to the west formed in the 1980s a coveted ensemble. The developer Trizec had acquired in the 1970s the part to the west of Balmoral Street and he made an exchange in 1982 with the City of Montreal, which owned the east part. The City became the owner of the northern half and had to build 600 housing there, reduced in 1985 to 250 but with three commercial floors, while Trizec gave itself seven years to build on the southern half "a second Place Ville-Marie " of 50 floors. . These projects will later be abandoned. [ 1 ] , [ 2 ]
